| Review: 'Enchanted'
"Enchanted" is the best Disney fantasy-musical since "Mary Poppins," a hilarious, dazzling send-up of the thing that made Disney what it is today -- fairy-tale princesses. It features a delightful, wide-eyed comic performance by Amy Adams of "Junebug" and another singing-dancing scene-stealing turn by James Marsden ("Hairspray"). This blend of animation in the classic Disney (hand-drawn) style and modern romance has wit and charm to burn. .
Neighborhood focus: Brush Prairie
You could call this a "Superneighborhood" focus - our second in a row. Last week it was the sprawling Fairgrounds Neighborhood Association, which runs all the way from the Columbia River to Northeast 72nd Avenue, near Battle Ground. Now it's Brush Prairie -that is, what's called the Greater Brush Prairie Neighborhood Association. Greater is right. Brush Prairie picks up where Fairgrounds leaves off, at 72nd Avenue, and keeps running east, out to 167th and 170th (or so - the east boundary doesn't follow the roads). It touches Battle Ground on the north and the Vancouver urban growth boundary on the south. Somewhere in the center of it all is downtown Brush Prairie, which boasts a busy general store and a handful more businesses, from construction company headquarters to a beauty salon and the county's geographically central live music spot, the Prairie Bar and Grill, whose rock 'n' roll motto is: More love, less attitude.

Annie Lennox crafts a personal, not political album
NEW YORK -- It doesn't take much to get Annie Lennox talking passionately about politics. Ask her what she thinks of the war in Iraq, and she'll shift into a tirade about man's inhumanity to man, terrorism, why the world needs to rethink war as a response to conflict, and disingenuous leaders.“I was kind of really shocked at how our politicians can wave a cloak around the truth and people can be very easily deceived en masse ... and (how) certain things may be done in the name of a nation that might be, in terms of human rights abuses, really quite dodgy," says Lennox. To that end, she's titled her new album “Songs of Mass Destruction."“Obviously, I was taking a pot shot, a swipe at the lie that we were given in our own country and here too, the excuse of going into Iraq," says the Scottish-born singer, who lives in London. But when it comes to the actual content of the songs, Lennox steers clear of any Bush-bashing or scathing social commentary.
For the first time, transgender to anchor TV show
For the first time in the history of Indian television, a transgender will anchor a talk show on a Tamil channel, Star Vijay, titled Ippadikku Rose (Yours Rose), glamourising a gender condemned to begging and sex work. A 28-year-old transgender, Rose, hailing from Chennai, will come on air about issues hitherto considered 'hush hush' like homosexuality, alternative sexuality, child abuse, sex abuse and generally things labelled as taboo. Dressed in glamourous costumes, that would range from designer sarees to western clothes, Rose will talk to celebrities on issues like phobias, rebellion and beauty "evoking emotions of all kinds in all kinds of people" for about half-an-hour in a late night talk show to be aired once every week. Rose, a chemical engineer, who completed her MS in biomedical engineering in the US, had won a beauty pageant for transgenders this year in Chennai.
The race to win gold
There isn't much call for Mount Fuji-shaped dry-stone walls where Tim Lancaster and Keith Chapman come from. But that is exactly the job being tackled by this pair of landscape gardeners from Yorkshire. And beauty therapist Jade Kidd, from Skegness, has never had a customer asking for a delicate Japanese flower to be painted on a big toe. But here she is doing just that, using a selection of brushes with tips as fine as needles. The three young Brits are among 22 competitors from the UK participating in WorldSkills 2007, held during last week. The biannual event is a sort of skills olympics, in which the most accomplished young craftsmen and women and technicians from 45 countries compete against each other in 47 vocational, or skills, areas from bricklaying, carpentry and computer-controlled metal cutting, to hairdressing, floristry and cooking.
