| Video game review: ‘Super Mario Galaxy’
EAGLE COUNTY, COLORADO Remember when video games used to be about taking you to fantastic places youve never been? Modern video games, especially in this high-definition era, have often been about replicating reality in greater detail: Emphasis gets placed on more realistic graphics and textures, real-life situations and real-world consequences while fighting in fantasy wars that seek to mirror the real one. Sometimes its still fun, but other times its a brown-and-gray drag. Super Mario Galaxy couldnt be more different. The fat Italian plumber who saved video games in the '80s by enthralling a generation with jumping on turtles and collecting mushrooms has returned in perhaps his best game yet, which sees him taking to space to rescue his beloved Princess Peach. Thats the standard story, sure, but taking Mario to space enabled the game designers to come up with a whole universe of new challenges, all of them mind-blowingly clever and fun.

Long ago in a distant land, there was the Club-Footed Columnist, who lived in a tiny shack in the woods all by himself, except for his magical pot of tree sap, which he slathered on his club foot every morning for good luck. Then, one week, the Club-Footed Columnist decided to take a week-long vacation to Los Angeles to visit some friends and get way, way too drunk. "Well," he thought, "I can't just let my column vanish for a week, just because I'll be away from my shack! I'll do TWO columns in ONE WEEK!" And so the Club-Footed Columnist toiled away tirelessly until the wee hours of the morning, a mere three hours before he was meeting up with his buddies to leave in fact, trying desperately to write his column despite being bleary-eyed, distracted, and downright delirious due to lack of sleep.

Rose of Versailles Bath Powder Sets Debut in Japan
The Japanese beauty supply maker Creer Beaute has begun selling bath powder sets based on The Rose of Versailles shōjo manga classic this fall. The sets come in four varieties to match the four main male characters of this historical romance set in aristocratic France: Fersen (thalasso water), Andre (rose-infused water), Gerodere (milky water), and Alain (hidrotic water). The bath powder sets join the official Rose of Versailles Mascara (in Oscar Gloss and Longlash and Antoinette Sparkle & Volume varieties) and the official Rose of Versailles Eyeliner (in one style: Oscar Impact & Cool Eyes) in Creer Beaute's catalog. Advance sales of the bath powders sets began in Japan's Loft and Its' Demo chain stores on September 20, with other stores following suit in October. Since Riyoko Ikeda's manga debuted in Shueisha's Margaret manga magazine in 1972 and the anime adaptation aired from 1979 to 1980, many of its fans have grown up and are now adult consumers of beauty supplies.
Holiday Caravan
Shorts and T-shirts were everywhere. Mittens and winter coats were nonexistent. "But, hey, it was still a lot of fun," said Bob Welch, who attended the grand event with his 5-year-old son, Ethan. Welcome to the 2007 edition of the Holiday Caravan, a parade that rolled through the streets of Spencer and Salisbury Wednesday. On a day that felt more appropriate for working on a tan than getting in the mood for a visit from Santa, almost 140 entries still made the 48th annual parade one to remember. Bands marched, beauty queens waved and old cars rolled, their chrome hood ornaments glistening in the afternoon sun. Oh, and Santa did participate, warm weather be darned. He was the final entry in the parade, stationed right where he was supposed to be.
Appeal launched for Moyston girls
The Moyston community has rallied together following the shock weekend tragedy which saw sisters Jessica and Piper Scroggie burnt in a camping accident near Warrnambool. Jessica, 15 and Piper, 3 were with their parents Tom and Terri Scroggie and four siblings camping at Killarney Beach near Warrnambool. The girls' tent caught fire on Friday evening, with police believing either a gas leak from a bottle that was supplying fuel for light, or heat from the light may have ignited the tent. Jessica is currently still in a critical condition at the Alfred Hospital, suffering burns to 80 percent of her body, while young sister Piper is at the Royal Children's Hospital with burns to 30 percent of her body. The girls were pulled from the fire by the campsite manager and a camper.
