| Kenya: Floating Hotel a Novel Idea Sure to Be a Big Hit With Tourists
Necessity is the mother of inventions, so the saying goes. And as the demand for and cost of land especially in Coast province rises by the day, so do people get smarter and more innovative in the lucrative and competitive tourism industry. One such person is Gerard Johnson who has developed some of the most exotic tourist resorts in Lamu. He knew only too well that for a piece of the local beach - if he found it - he would part with millions of shillings. So he decided that ingenuity would work the magic. .
You silly boys: blondes make men act dumb
WHEN men meet fair-haired women they really do have a "blonde moment". Scientists have found that their mental performance drops, apparently because they believe they are dealing with someone less intelligent. Researchers discovered what might be called the "bimbo delusion" by studying men’s ability to complete general knowledge tests after exposure to different women. The academics found that men’s scores fell after they were shown pictures of blondes. Further analysis convinced the team that, rather than simply being distracted by the flaxen hair, those who performed poorly had been unconsciously driven by social stereotypes to "think blonde". "This proves that people confronted with stereotypes generally behave in line with them," said Thierry Meyer, joint author of the study and professor of social psychology at the University of Paris X-Nanterre.
Laraine Newman: Contempt Prior To Investigation
The schism between the perceptions of what the journeyman actor, writer, director truly face on a daily basis is vast. The twelve-hour day, a minimum for actors. Countless rewrites for no pay. Directors....well, they never sleep. It's also sickening to imagine how little the writers are asking for in all of this and the cynical obstruction of the studios. Mr. Hunter's review articulates a prejudice about our industry that is pervasive in our country. Look up the definition of prejudice. 'Enchanted' a mixed bag of cartoons, live action
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Enchantment goes only so far in Walt Disney's "Enchanted," a sometimes clever, other times grating mix of live action and animation that plays tricks with levels of movie reality as the world of fairy-tale animation invades contemporary New York. The film from director Kevin Lima, who has worked in both formats (the animated "Tarzan" and live-action "102 Dalmatians"), has moments of hilarious inspiration. But the overwhelming default mode is youthful slapstick, so the movie may strain adults' patience even as it tests the attention span of children with its 107-minute running time. Warner Bros. animators of old could mix genres and play with reality in the space of a three-minute Looney Tunes short: One of the great existential moments in cinema occurs when Daffy Duck experiences a mental breakdown as his landscape and genre keep changing, thanks to a sadistic animator named Bugs Bunny.
Networks strike back with reality TV
If next week's rumoured talks between the writers guild and producers are as unsuccessful as a Ted McGinley sitcom and the strike steams ahead, the question that has to be asked is what show -- or, rather, shows -- will go on once the networks run out of scripts, which will likely be by January. So, faster than you can say, "Find me a hot girl, a lukewarm celebrity and a fat guy," you've got reality shows popping up like a Desperate Housewives cast member at a red-carpet event. Out of a plethora of shows, a few stand out -- for good and bad reasons. .
Give your wedding a personal touch
If you're like most brides-do-be, you've been dreaming about your wedding day since you were a young girl. Whether it's a lavish gala or an intimate affair, it will be one of the most important days in your life. To the tiniest detail, it must be perfect. If your big day is looming on the horizon, consider personal touches to make your dream wedding a reality. Start when considering the décor for the location of the actual wedding as well as the reception or party to be held afterwards. "Instead of hiring someone to do the decorating for you, do it yourself. It will mean more, and you'll be amazed at what you can do," suggests Laura Byrne of Michaels Arts and Crafts stores, one of the nation's leading suppliers of wedding accessories. .
