"Disney's Beauty and the Beast," yet another stage musical based on an already popular movie, garnered several Tony Award nominations in 1994, but lost out across the board to the more sophisticated Stephen Sondheim drama "Passion." Yet all across America, tours of the Broadway production were eagerly attended, and community theaters hankered for the day when they could stage the extravagant fairy tale. Now, Playful Theatre Productions brings the fractured fairy tale to the Kelsey Theater stage with a vibrant cast that keeps the nearly three-hour show consistently exciting. With a book by Linda Woolverton, music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Howard Ashman ("The Little Mermaid" and "Little Shop of Horrors" team) plus Andrew Lloyd Webber's former partner, Tim Rice, "Beauty and the Beast" offers something for everyone.

See Mallorca if you like art or like love
I am an avid collector of Mediterranean islands. Cyprus, with its part-Greek and part-Turkish personality; Capri, with its Blue Grotto; and Sardinia, with its Emerald Coast. Madeira, known for fine wine; Mykonos, for spinning windmills; and Malta, for a fabled falcon. Corsica, the island of Napoleon's birth, which is off the coast of Italy but belongs to France; and Elba, the island of Napoleon's exile, which is off the coast of France but belongs to Italy. To that list, I can now add Mallorca. One of the Balearic Islands just south of Spain, Mallorca is a renowned artists' colony, a serene alternative to the never-ending partying on nearby Ibiza, and a favorite haunt of lovers. In common with other Mediterranean islands, the usual cast of characters have found their way to Mallorca -- Roman invaders, marauding Vandals, conquering Byzantines and Carthaginians, exploring Moors and Catalans, and English and German tourists on the trail of sun-kissed spots.

From salon's ashes, a sense of community
Rebuilding is easier with two. After 24 years together as partners in life, and 17 as partners in business, Michael Abdella and Nicholas Olivieri are facing their toughest collaboration yet: rehabbing their popular West Main Street spa and hair salon after last month's devastating fire, which caused more than $250,000 worth of damage. While the process had been stressful and costly, they said, the disaster has also made them realize what an institution they've become in Northborough. "Over three to four hundred people came by just to give us hugs and kisses," said Olivieri recently. "We couldn't believe we'd get such a response from the community. The spa has become a part of their lives for a lot of the ladies." Abdella was surveying soot-blackened chairs in the spa's backyard as Olivieri spoke.
Nigeria: My Only Regret is My Broken Marriage -Mrs. Ify Akerele
She lost her medical doctor, father to the cold hands of death when she was just 13. this marked a turning point for her and her mother. She had to face the challenge of growing up without the succour and material support of her loving father. Her mother, then a teacher was undaunted by any challenges which life threw at her direction. Instead of wailing over what she didn't have control over, she abandoned her teaching profession, relocated to England where she enrolled for a degree in law and graduated. This experience, Mrs. Ify Akerele said, toughened her desire to excel in life. After her A. levels in England, Ify relocated to Nigeria and proceeded to attend the University of Ife, Obafemi Awolowo University, to study law. She later abandoned law and moved to the University of Lagos where she studied Sociology, graduating in 1979.
