Steiner Leisure Limited (NASDAQ:STNR) today announced that its luxury resort spa division, Mandara Spa, has entered into a new agreement to operate a luxury spa facility located at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The hotel is part of the Starwood Hotels group's Luxury Collection of properties.

This six year agreement represents a renewal of our prior agreement to operate a spa at this hotel and will involve the renovation of the current spa at the hotel. We will pay $280,000 in connection with the renovation of that spa.

The luxury boutique spa will feature unique signature treatments by Mandara Spa and will offer local and Balinese beauty treatments. As part of the renovation, the spa will add two luxury double spa suites with sunken baths and steam showers, adding to the existing eight single treatment rooms.

Loving it

It is the place to go to treat yourself to a relaxing stay when in Penang.

By CHRISTINA CHIN

Since its RM100mil redevelopment was completed more than a year ago, much has been said about the Shangri-Las Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa.

Expectations are running high and justifiably so, because the resort prides itself on being among the most luxurious in the region.

Naturally, a night at the Rasa Sayang is quite a pricey affair. Expect to fork out at least RM750++. Fellow journalists and foreign travel writers I have spoken to, however, agree that it is money well spent.

Scoreboard doesn't tell the tale

The big kid with a red Mohawk stood on the football field, the sun setting on his high school career and tears glistening on his cheeks.

"When I heard the last call in the huddle, I was thinking: 'I'm going to score.' And it didn't happen," Chatfield High School senior James Skelton said. "But I tried. I tried."

Then, the 6-foot-2, 195-pound halfback cried. For reasons you might never guess.

Lugging the football on a pure smash-mouth play known as 26 Power, Skelton got stonewalled at the goal line on his final snap of the Colorado state playoffs.

But as he hit the turf with a deflating thump, the scoreboard lights read: Mullen 42, Chatfield 7.

Sometimes, the final score completely misses the point. Although Chatfield lost big, to think these players were beaten would fail to measure what's truly important in the heart.

Shortage puts barber grads in demand

VICTORVILLE Some people thinking about a college have put the word barber in front of it. After all, it takes 1,500 hours over 13 months to earn a barber/stylist license, said Dave Barnicoat, owner of Mojave Barber College. He said there is a shortage of barbers and most states are begging for them. Branicoat said people are more familiar with beauty schools than they are with barber colleges. Its like a very mysterious field out there, nobody knows anything about it, but they all know about cosmetology, but very few people know about barbering and most people think its the same, and it isnt, Branicoat said. The income potential for a barber/stylist can be at least comparable to a college graduate. A barber after five years should be making at least between $50,000 and a $100,000 a year, at least in that ballpark.

Seachangers earn their keep

MELBOURNE couple Steph Powell and Annie Glasson do a different sort of chasing these days. Gone are their old lives chasing time, cocktails and cafes.

Now they listen out for the cars chasing each other down Bells Beach Boulevard in the early hours of the morning, which tell them the surf's good.

"We had just done this great renovation in Hampton and had only been in the house for six months, when Steph said 'right, that's it let's go'," says Glasson.

So in 1996, Powell packed up his landscape design and construction company and Annie left her high-pressure tourism and marketing role and the Queens Street city commute.

The couple bought a 2.4ha property in Torquay, south of Geelong, for their family of two young boys, Sam and Jamie.

Dear friends,

FUNDRAISING - URGENT - WE NEED $10,000 BY XMAS We urgently need funds to help meet the large costs we have incurred so far and costs we can predict over the next few months. To put it bluntly we need to raise $10,000 before XMAS. Thanks very much to those who have donated to the defence fund. We have already paidpaid for a range of expenses such as initial legal support, emergency travel for GPJA and Tuhoe representatives to take a delegation to Wellington, campaigning costs, national media monitoring etc However we need to pay for posters, leaflets and general campaign expenses. We also wish to support the families of those who have suffered loss of income through family members in prison for 3/4 weeks and the travel/accommodation involved in visiting and supporting them.

LEAH GARCHIK

Emerging from their coaches in Thursday night's fog at the Legion of Honor, les comtes et comtesses of San Francisco were greeted by four women dressed as gorillas, their faces covered with furry rubber, handing out flyers: "Marie Antoinette; Vivienne Westwood; Nan Kempner. The Guerilla Girls want more women shown in our museums. This is NOT what we had in mind." The name on the bottom of the handout, "Guerilla Girls West" (spelling does NOT count in political protest). The long-established Guerrilla Girls are anonymous activist feminist artists, known for staging protests of male dominance in the art world.

"Stay away from the car," a security guard told the gorillas. "It's a private event," someone else complained. "Why don't you do something public?" One gorilla whimpered in mock fear.
