There is a beautiful life after reality television

It's been almost two years since Brittany Knott came oh-so closer to snagging $125,000 on "Beauty and the Geek 2," in which she played, well, one of the beauties.

When we last spoke with the South Elgin stunner after she exited the show as a finalist, she said she hoped to parlay that opportunity into an acting or modeling career in Hollywood.

Has she changed her mind? And what has she been doing since leaving the show?

For one thing, Knott, 23, has completed her studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

She received her marketing degree last December and graduated with honors, earning a 3.87 GPA.

Right now, she's put her Hollywood dreams on hold, although her new job requires her to jet to the west coast at least once a week.

Since January, Knott has been working at a dental manufacturing company in Algonquin.

A nice aroma in N.J.

Inside a humid greenhouse, beads of water slowly drip down the petals of a light orange and purple flower on a warm autumn morning.

Subha Patel gently touches the orchid.

"If you look at this flower, it has its own beauty and pride," Patel said. "At different times of the day, it will give you a different smell that is sweet with a licorice note."

Notes -- the hundreds of aromas that comprise a fragrance -- are always on Patel's mind as she listens to what her nose tells her. "Plants talk to you," said Patel, director of nature-inspired fragrance technology for International Flavors & Fragrances. "They communicate through their fragrance."

Patel oversees the world's largest collection of aromatic orchids, among other plants, at IFF's Botanical Gardens in Union Beach.

Evelyn Hays is top national sponsor for The Longaberger Company

Evelyn Hays of Paris recently received the Top National Sponsor Award from The Longaberger Company. This year, Hays brought 36 new qualified Home Consultants into her Longaberger team. She was recognized during the companys annual convention held in Columbus, Ohio. She was accompanied on stage by her husband Merle, their children, Alyx and Chandra and grandchildren, Aleah and Alec. You cannot grow unless you sponsor, said Hays. Its easier for me to ask somebody to sign up to sell and earn some money for themselves than it is for me to ask someone to buy a product from me where Im making all the money myself. I am grateful to be serving my community and beyond as the National Top Sponsor for Longaberger this year. Longaberger offers a wonderful business opportunity to women nationwide. Hays added that Longaberger is not exclusive to women and many men do sell the product.

Gebhard Ullmann At 50: A Career Retrospective

Gebhard Ullmann (born in Bad Godesberg, Germany, November 2, 1957) is a composer and improvisor unique in the jazz world today. Playing a multitude of reeds and flutes, and maintaining an international presence with both European and American groups, Ullmann has created a body of work that is much more than a chronological series of recordings documenting his musical thinking.

Each of his various projects addresses different musical issues and hence has its own distinctive voice, which is magnified by the reworked compositions that flow through them; the thread of his recurring compositions connects the different projects.

Each release stands alone, of course, but Ullmann's oeuvre ought to be viewed by the differing lenses of project or composition. Each individual album is connected to the others, not only by the presence of Ullmann, but also by how the compositions mutate.

Study Of Adolescent Eating Disorders

Eating disorders in the U.S. among ethnic groups were thought to be rare, but recent studies have shown that many cultures are now exposed to the thin beauty ideal. As a result, experts expect to see an increase in eating disorder symptoms among ethnic groups. It is also suspected that eating disorders and weight control behaviors may be increasing among adolescent boys. Although research has shown that eating disorders begin during adolescence, few epidemiological studies have been conducted with teens and those that have examined weight control practices among adolescents are too varied to be able to discern trends.

A new study, one of the first to examine trends in adolescent weight control behaviors over a 10-year period, found that the prevalence of these behaviors in male adolescents significantly increased, while black females appear to resist pressure to pursue thinness.

This 'Tempest' transports

It is not fun to be stranded on a desolate island - but watching a comedy unfold on one certainly is. With amusing wit, beauty and intriguing fantasy, Shakespeare's The Tempest is no ordinary farce. When the lights dimmed and everything quieted, Methacton High School's audience was immediately swept away on a theatrical adventure. The play begins when the sorcerer Prospero, former Duke of Milan, conjures a storm to carry a ship to his island. He and Ariel, his indebted nymph, manage to scatter the bewildered survivors. The voyagers, a bickering group of courtiers and royalty, do not know that it is the vengeful Prospero, whom they had viciously deposed 13 years ago, who actually manipulates the events of their stay. Taking on Shakespeare is a daunting task, but the cast had an obvious understanding of the play's themes.
