| Beauty deals a beastly blow to the US dollar
The saga of the declining dollar has turned from a drama into a crisis. We’ve got used to having Chinese officials hinting darkly that they might diversify their foreign exchange reserves out of the US currency, as they did again last week. We can even take it when Bill Gross, the world’s most influential bond investor, tells the public, as he did, also last week, that their investment strategy should consist of not buying anything that has a dollar sign attached to it. But when Gisele Bündchen, the Brazilian supermodel, trashes your currency by insisting that she wants to be paid in euros, not dollars, it really hurts. Since the dollar began its long decline against the world’s currencies in early 2002, the mantra from financial pundits has been that as long as the decline was orderly, everything should be all right.
Shecky's Beauty Night
You know it�s going to be a hot event when you arrive ten minutes after the show opens and there�s already a line down the block.
The first glimpse of Shecky�s annual Beauty Night Out in Manhattan: The posh flea market took place October 24 and 25 on three separate floors of Loft 11 and featured Shecky�s �Best Of� products.
Upon reaching the door, Shecky�s staff greets you so many times that you immediately feel like a diva. But the real fun began on the 15th floor, where you checked in, got your wristband and a fully loaded goody bag.
Some of the amazing sights on that level were Chameleon�s hand-made copper jewelry, Luxe Essentials' body butter, which smelled like real fruit, and Biggs and Featherbelle�s handmade, all-natural body products.
Tahuna revisited
THIS time the ride was fast and easy. Touching down Tahuna airport at 12 minutes past 10 in the morning Wednesday last week was a breeze.

It was a clear sunny day and the weather was excellent.
As soon as we disembarked from the Fokker 50 plane of the Philippine Air Force, we were met by a full brass, nay bamboo, band from our host Sanghirees.
For Eastern Mindanao Command chief Lt. Gen. Cardozo Luna, it was his first ever trip to the island city of Tahuna, part of the Sanghire Regency of the province of North Sulawesi. So was it for General Santos City mayor Pedro Acharon.
It was the second visit this year for Sarangani Governor Miguel Rene Dominguez.
The North Sulawesi province of Indonesia is Mindanao's nearest neighbor in this part of Southeast Asia with the Marore Island just a little over 40 nautical miles from the town of Balut Island in Davao del Sur.

Grooming goes green
TORONTO (Reuters) -- Who ever thought that putting on your face in the morning might be dangerous. On the heels of massive recalls of lead-laced toys, a cosmetics safety campaign has found the offensive metal in several popular brands of lipstick. Last month, The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics said one-third of 33 red lipsticks they had tested at an independent lab contained lead levels above the Food and Drug Administration's maximum recommendation for candy, 0.1 parts per million. The Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association said the lead was not intentionally added and appeared in negligible amounts, but the FDA said it would investigate the campaign's findings. Whether the levels are dangerous or not, consumers have been increasingly turning "green" in their grooming habits.
Swallows come and go, but families like to nest here
When it comes to stepping back in time, the Los Rios Historic District in San Juan Capistrano can claim major bragging rights. It is one of the oldest residential neighborhoods in California, with adobe homes built in the 1790s and 200-year-old pepper and olive trees.
Beginnings
The historic district is just a stone's throw from Mission San Juan Capistrano, and the origins of both are intertwined. Forty adobe structures were built on and around Los Rios Street in 1794 as housing for Indian neophytes with ties to the mission. This was unusual and a step up in living standards: At most missions, the new converts lived in reed huts.
Of the original structures, only the Silvas, Rios and Montanez adobes remain. The Rios Adobe is now home to the 10th generation of the same family and is one of the oldest residences in California to be continuously occupied by a single family, according to the local historical society.
